On Walmart.ca, some listings show a “Fulfilled by Walmart” tag. It tells shoppers that Walmart itself will store, pack and ship the order, and it often comes with faster delivery promises. For Canadian marketplace sellers, that tag can make the difference between a click and a scroll-past. This guide explains what the tag is, how to get it in Canada and how to keep it once you have it.
What is the “Fulfilled by Walmart” tag?
The tag appears on items that are stored and shipped through Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), Walmart’s fulfillment program for marketplace sellers. When you use WFS, you send inventory to a Walmart Canada fulfillment centre. Walmart then picks, packs and ships each order, handles customer support for those orders and processes returns.
You do not apply for the tag on its own. It comes with WFS: once an item is enrolled in WFS and has stock in Walmart’s network, it can show the tag.
Why the tag matters
- Trust: shoppers know the order is handled by Walmart, not an unknown seller.
- Faster delivery: WFS items can be offered with fast shipping options, which helps when shoppers filter by delivery speed.
- Easier returns: WFS orders are covered by Walmart’s return process, so buying from you feels lower-risk.
- Less work for you: Walmart handles picking, packing, shipping and order support for those items.
How to get the Fulfilled by Walmart tag in Canada
- Get approved on Walmart Marketplace Canada. Walmart.ca uses an application process, so you need an approved seller account before anything else.
- Join WFS in Seller Center. Existing sellers can start WFS onboarding from the WFS section of Seller Center and set their return preferences.
- Check your products are eligible. WFS takes most categories, but perishable and regulated items are not accepted, aerosols are excluded and there are size and weight limits. Some categories, such as grocery or natural health products, need extra approval first.
- Convert your items to WFS. Set new or existing listings as WFS items in Seller Center.
- Prepare your inventory. Every unit needs a scannable product barcode (GTIN/UPC). Amazon FNSKU labels are not used for Walmart. Pack units so they survive handling, and follow Walmart’s routing and labelling instructions for cartons and pallets.
- Create an inbound order and ship it. Create the inbound shipment in Seller Center, print the receiving labels and send the stock to the Walmart fulfillment centre you are assigned.
- Wait for receiving. Once Walmart receives and checks in your units, the items become available and can show the tag.
How to keep the tag
- Stay in stock. If your WFS inventory runs out, you lose the benefit until new stock is received. Plan replenishment before you run low.
- Avoid receiving problems. Missing or unreadable barcodes, poor packaging and wrong carton labels slow down receiving and can lead to extra charges.
- Watch storage time. WFS charges monthly storage, so sending months of slow-moving stock at once costs more. Smaller, regular shipments usually work better.
- Keep listings accurate. Correct dimensions and weights matter, because fees and storage are based on them.
Using a 3PL alongside WFS
Many sellers keep their bulk inventory at a 3PL and send Walmart smaller replenishment shipments. The 3PL receives supplier and container shipments, labels and preps the units, and ships to Walmart when stock is needed. The same inventory can also supply Amazon, your own store and wholesale orders.
| Ship everything to WFS | 3PL + WFS replenishment | |
|---|---|---|
| Storage cost | Walmart storage on all stock | Walmart storage only on what is selling now |
| Stock-outs | Risk if one shipment is delayed | Backup stock ready to send |
| Other channels | WFS stock serves Walmart.ca orders | Same stock serves Amazon, Shopify and B2B |
| Prep and labels | You or your supplier must get it right | 3PL preps to Walmart requirements |

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay extra for the Fulfilled by Walmart tag?
No. The tag comes with using WFS. You pay WFS fulfillment and storage fees, not a separate fee for the tag. Check the current rates in Seller Center.
Can a seller-fulfilled item show the tag?
No. The tag is for items stored and shipped by Walmart through WFS.
How long does it take to get the tag?
Once your items are set up for WFS, the main wait is shipping your inventory and Walmart receiving it. Delays usually come from labelling or packaging problems, so getting prep right speeds things up.
Can a 3PL send inventory to Walmart for me?
Yes. A 3PL can receive your stock, label and prep it to Walmart’s requirements and ship your inbound orders to Walmart’s fulfillment centres.
